>>BOOKA SHADE
Top Get Physical producers Booka Shade are the unlikely choice for the latest volume in the 'DJ Kicks' series, out in October.
Are Booka Shade DJs? Well, not really. But that little fact doesn't phase !K7, who in the past have invited such non-DJs as Trüby Trio, Erlend Øye and Annie behind the decks for their 'DJ Kicks' series. As the PR puts it: "Booka Shade have an intimate knowledge of the dancefloor and the differing tools required in a DJ's arsenal, but Jeff Mills or Richie Hawtin…they are not."But the lack of a DJ resume isn't going to stop Booka, who promise something a little different from the run of the mill DJ mix in their first foray into the format.
"DJ-Kicks is the perfect project for us," says Arno Kammermeier. "It allows us to do our own thing. It allows us to make a musical statement. And that was what was appealing to us. People don't see us as hot DJs, so this isn't a snapshot of summer 2007, it's about creating something that will last."Rather than documenting their the latest club tunes, Booka Shade mix up older gems with unreleased newies on a CD which promises to be eclectic.
Amid dance music from Carl Craig, Matthew Dear and Lopazz, Booka Shade find room for French disco (Cerrone), rap (The Streets), '70s soundtracks (John Carpenter), '80s electro-pop (Heaven 17, Yazoo) and even the downright odd (Brigitte Bardot, The Tubes). "We really got into the material that we were using," explains Walter Merziger, "Putting it together was like creating a remix."Many of the cuts are mixed together using Booka Shade rhythm tracks, while the mix also contains two Booka exclusives, 'Numbers' ("The mix inspired us to write a song with vocals. It's the first time we've had real vocals on a Booka Shade track") and 'Estoril'. "We came at it from a producer's background," Walter explains.
"It wasn't just about choosing tracks that blended rhythmically, but we were interested in the harmony as well. The transition of the mixes had to be harmonically correct too. That's why there's lots of layers in there."

>>RICARDO VILLALOBOS
You've been waiting for this for a while and it's finally here! The most hyped Fabric release and one of the most hyped Ricardo records (well since "Sinner In Me" at least) is finally here. Breaking with the tradition of Fabric cd's being mixes senor Villalobos has delivered a collection of 15 original productions, including the 'one with the chanting' that him and Luciano have been caning all through the summer and before.
Ricardo villalobos has reached a point , where he can do as artist what ever he wants to.
and it works very well.
“It is all my productions and it's a form of introducing an album as a mix. Every time you do an album and then you do the next one, people start to compare how the music is different, why you did it on this label and not that label, they try to define it, "the other album was better," "there's no hit like "Easy Lee" on it... and so forth it's exhausting, really. So I think you always have to find a new way to introduce your music and present yourself. I chose fabric because fabric is the perfect label for me to do this on. I really prefer for it to be treated like a normal mix CD, with no hype. I'm more known for head-y, trippy music, so of course it is still very trippy and monotone, in the monotone way of delivering always the same tone and doing something to your brain. But it is more dancey and housey and summery. I always think of the dancefloor when I create music, so it's a projection, a vision. And it?s not one track after another after another, it develops very subtly.”
"For me it's incredible to be able to play at Fabric so often. It's the best sounding club in the world. The atmosphere is really nice, the concept is really nice, that there are three floors, each a completely different world. You enter each room and it is like it is swallowing you, it's something that doesn't happen in big rooms very often. If I am asked to play in a club where two thousand people attend in one night I normally say 'No, no way, too much'. The first time I came to Fabric I was completely surprised at how separate and how isolated each of the worlds are. You can decide on where to go depending on how you feel, and the line ups are good and different. It's a music lover's concept, and the people that do fabric are music lovers. And it has a lot of support from the underground: that isn't very common for a big club at all."

>>CHLOE
first album of beloved french dj chloe
CHLOE - THE WAITING ROOM
Dj and producer, Chloe is today part of the parisian club culture.
Her style, a cross between minimalism and dirty electro, reflects her eclectism, making her one of the DJs the most sought after in French clubbing.
Resident Dj, the PULP became her family, a scene of all experimentations.
The small girls' club, very open minded and demanding, which today has become a mythe, allowed her to refine her style and technique and impose her image as a discreet but implacable DJ.
Her "EROSOFT" ep, launched in 2001 on the Katapult label: KARAT, had quite a lot of success in the select new born minimal house world - since: Krikor, Ark or Cabanne have also joined as well the small Katapult band, who brought a new future to French electronic music.
Since, other releases : « THE FORGOTTEN ep», minimal dark-house & abstract tracks (Karat / 2004)- « THE FLICK OF THE SWITCH», minimal- electro(Battle / 2004), « TAKE CARE», dark minimal electro (Crack'n Speed / 2005) & few remixes (Avril, Leroy Hangofer, Booka Shade, As We Fall...).
Open to different styles of music in her productions : from experimental lo fi tracks to hypnotic deep techno, she also sings, shyly, & is still playing her guitar, always searching...
She collaborated to the music of short movies from french director Lidia Terki & prepares other new projects...
Dj or producer, play records or making them, it's the same idea : hypnotic, removed sounds, cold/ hot.
The french alternative magazine wrote about her "Star dj, Chloe flirts with the words. We'll be haunted for a long time by her schizophrenic monologue".
