First there was 'Brainfreeze' then came 'Product Placement' now Cut Chemsit and DJ Shadow come together on 'The Hard Sell' which was recorded live during the rehearsals for their gigs at The Hollywood Bowl in mid-2007.
Fans attending can apparently expect "music from all eras and styles, providing for amusing and provocative mash-ups; rap mixes with fiddle music, doo-wop with new wave, and everything in between...all while avoiding the obvious". Speaking of The Hard Sell, DJ Shadow says "we want to play something to make everyone smile...and then send them running for the exits!"
The live-mixing effort, which becomes the third touring enterprise that the duo have produced since 1999 (previous tours produced a pair of live discs 1999's "Brainfreeze" and last year's "Product Placement"), utilizes eight turntables, four mixers and two effects pedals, according to a short promotional video streaming at the MySpace site.
Cut Chemist who previously worked with Los Angeles Latin funk act Ozomatli (appearing on the group's first two albums) and rappers Jurassic 5, released his first full-length solo album, "The Audience's Listening," in July of last year.
DJ Shadow released his third full-length effort, "The Outside," last fall. The artist whose real name is Josh Davis released the groundbreaking "Entroducing ..." in 1996, a record that made the Guinness Book of World Records in 2001 under the entry "First Completely Sampled Album.
